Maria Island Mussels is Australia’s premier producer of high-quality value-added mussel products, which are proudly grown and made on the East Coast of Tasmania. The brand and product range reflect an achievement that has been over a decade in the making. It all started with parent company Norfolk Bay Gourmet Seafoods & partner Spring Bay Seafoods pioneering and establishing the Australian value adding mussel industry almost 15 years ago.
Back then the Australian VA mussel industry didn’t even exist so over the years we tried and refined different cooking & smoking methods, flavours, spices & packaging ideas. We invested in new mussel cooking equipment and downstream production machinery. We then took the best of what we had learnt and put them into a new brand built from the ground up called Maria Island Mussels.
The company’s manufacturing and production is spread across 2 main locations in South East Tasmania. We have a manufacturing plant in the township of Sorell where we smoke and pack our products, and on the east coast we harvest our mussels from the waters adjacent to Maria Island and cook and process the mussels into mussel meat at a factory in Triabunna.
Maria Island Mussels is a showcase of Tasmanian quality produce and providence at its highest degree. Our products sit proudly on the shelves of major supermarkets & independents stores across Australia. We are the comfort food that goes with canapés for many Australian’s along with their favourite cheeses and wines.
